Samples required

Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube) or

EDTA blood (purple cap, 4 mL tube)

Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

DNA detection and quantification can be performed on urine samples from neonates.

Test indications

Serology testing in fatigue-related disorders is often unhelpful.

Test information

  • IgM, EBNA-G, VCA-G EIA (clotted or EDTA blood)
  • DNA detection and quantification (EDTA blood)

IgM reactive samples may be tested by PCR to determine the EBV viral load..
