General Information

Pathology at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Sussex is now part of the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, which was formed by the 2021 merger of the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and Western Sussex Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. UHS Pathology East now provide these services as University Hospitals Sussex Pathology East (UHSPE).

UHSPE provides a wide range of acute and complex services to PRH, RSCH, The Royal Alexandra Hospital (Brighton), The Sussex Eye Hospital (Brighton) and Brighton General Hospital. Frequent GP courier runs for the collection of samples, and electronic transmission of results, enables the provision of effective pathology services for upwards of 400 primary care physicians and their patients. These are delivered in the City of Brighton and Hove, Mid Sussex and the Ouse Valley areas, and covers a population in excess of 600 000.
