Samples required

EDTA blood (purple cap/ black cap ring, 4 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

For investigation of haemoglobinopathies e.g HbS, HbC, beta thalassaemia.

Reference range

Haemoglobin HbA₂: 2.0 - 3.2 %
Haemoglobin F (adults): ≤ 1.0 %

Samples are referred by Haematology Department for molecular investigation of haemoglobinopathy / thalassaemia if necessary after in-house HPLC, sickle screen and haemoglobin electrophoresis are complete. 

2 x 4 mL EDTA blood required.
