Samples required

Trisodium citrate blood (blue cap, 3.5 mL tube) taken with minimal stasis, filled to the line (preferred sample). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Samples should be processed in the laboratory within 2 hours of venepuncture.

A positive result may necessitate a reflex test requiring a clotted blood (gold cap, 5mL tube) to be sent for a HIT inhibitor sendaway assay. The laboratory will request this reflex sample if required.
