Samples required	● Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.
Test indications	To aid the diagnosis of Sydenham's chorea and post-infectious movement disorders.
Test information	Detected by Western blot.
Reference range	Reported as negative or positive. Basal ganglia antibodies are associated with movement disorders in adults and neuro-psychiatric manifestations in children, particularly the post-infective syndromes of Sydenham’s Chorea and PANDAS.
Turnaround time	Referral lab quotes turnaround time of 14 days, however additional time must be allowed for packing, dispatch and delivery of sample, and return and processing of results.
