Urine urate |
Samples required |
24h urine collection in plain container, must not be acidified. Instructions for 24h urine collection available here or on UHSussex public site. |
Test indications |
Recommended as part of the renal stone former investigations. |
Factors affecting test performance/ results |
Calcium dobesilate, Levodopa and methyldopa can all cause artificially low uric acid results. High homogentisic acid concentrations in urine samples lead to false results. Dicynone (Etamsylate) at therapeutic concentrations may lead to false-low results. Paracetamol, acetylcysteine and metamizole are metabolized quickly. Interference from these substances is therefore unlikely but cannot be excluded. Results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other findings. |
