Fresh stool sample.

Please DO NOT overfill containers. A walnut-sized amount is sufficient.

If requesting more than one faecal analysis please send separate samples for each, as storage requirements differ.

Test indications

Indicated in younger patients to help distinguish Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

This test is intended for the investigation of IBS/IBD in patients under 50 years old. For those over 50, consider other diagnoses.

Reference range

          
< 100 µg/g Treat as IBS or consider non lower-GI disease.
100 - 200 µg/g     Repeat test in 6 weeks.
> 200 µg/g Refer urgently to digestive diseases.
