● Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples. Observe correct sample draw order to avoid EDTA contamination e.g. from FBC tubes. Information on draw order is available here. |

Increased in (often clinically-evident) sarcoidosis, other lung and connective tissue diseases. |

Factors affecting test performance/ results |
ACE inhibitors will cause low results. EDTA will cause falsely low results - avoid contamination of serum samples. |

Turnaround time |
Run twice a week at referral lab. Additional time must be allowed for packing, despatch and delivery of sample, and return and processing of results. |
