Samples required

Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Observe correct sample draw order to avoid EDTA contamination e.g. from FBC tubes. Information on draw order is available here.

Increased in (often clinically-evident) sarcoidosis, other lung and connective tissue diseases.

Factors affecting test performance/ results

ACE inhibitors will cause low results. EDTA will cause falsely low results - avoid contamination of serum samples.

Reference range

Adults: 20 - 70 U/L

Turnaround time

Run twice a week at referral lab. Additional time must be allowed for packing, despatch and delivery of sample, and return and processing of results.
