Samples required

RSCH: please send patient to outpatient phlebotomy with request form and a strip of TEN patient demographic sticky labels (for request forms).

PRH: please send patient to outpatient phlebotomy with request form marked "metabolic stone screen".

Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube) for U&E, creatinine, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, LFT, gamma GT, uric acid.

EDTA blood (purple cap/ black cap ring, 4 mL tube). for full blood count.

Fresh random urine sample for microbiology for urine culture.

Two 24h urine collections for Biochemistry:

plain collection for creatinine, uric acid, cystine, sodium, potassium.
acidified collection for creatinine, calcium, phosphate, citrate and oxalate.

Test indications

For the initial investigation of recurrent renal calculi, or renal calculus in younger patients.
