● EDTA blood (purple cap/ yellow cap ring, 4 mL tube), and ● clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube) for simultaneous albumin and calcium. Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples. Avoid haemolysis. |

Investigation of calcium abnormalities. Please only request if hyper or hypocalcaemia (adjusted) has been confirmed, or if there is a specific indication (e.g. ?tertiary hyperparathyroidism). |

Factors affecting test performance/ results |
Haemolysed samples are unsuitable. In rare cases, interference due to extremely high titres of antibodies to analyte-specific antibodies, streptavidin or ruthenium can occur. Results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other findings. |
