Samples required

At least 5 mL urine with NO preservative, preferably when fasting or ill. Transport to lab promptly.

Full clinical details necessary. Blood ammonia, glucose and bicarbonate may be helpful.

Suspected inherited metabolic disease (see paediatric investigation profiles) - organic acidaemias, disorders of amino acid metabolism.
