Immunoglobulins

Alternative names, keywords

IgG, IgA, IgM

Samples required

Clotted blood (gold cap, 5 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Test indications

Factors affecting test performance/ results

As with other turbidimetric or nephelometric procedures, these tests may not provide accurate results in patients with monoclonal gammopathy, due to the unpredictable characteristics of paraproteins.

Results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other findings.

Reference range

Results are only valid if the Ig class is polyclonal (i.e. no paraproteins present).
