Samples required

Lithium heparin blood (green cap, 6 mL tube), or heparinised arterial blood, as near to exposure as possible. Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Test indications

Useful post-mortem, smoking detection, and investigation of dizziness and nausea if exhaust from car or home heater is poor.

Test information

Service available during routine working hours only. For RSCH and PRH requestors, this test can be done on most of the GEM 5000 point-of-care blood gas analysers available in various locations around the Trust.

Please note this test is not currently UKAS accredited.
