Samples required

EDTA blood (purple cap/ yellow cap ring, 4 mL tube). Smaller tubes are available for paediatric samples.

Sample should ideally be protected from light - wrap in foil - and must reach laboratory within 6 hours of collection. B₁, B₂ and B₆ can share same sample if necessary.

Test indications

Symptoms of B₁ deficiency, or suspected deficiency due to poor intake or malabsorption.

66 - 200 nmol/L

Turnaround time

Referral lab quotes turnaround time of 12 days, however additional time must be allowed for packing, dispatch and delivery of sample, and return and processing of results.
