Amylase : creatinine ratio (ACR), amylase/creatinine clearance ratio (ACCR) |
Samples required |
5 mL plain urine |
Test indications |
The urine amylase : creatinine ratio (ACR) is used to detect an increase in amylase activity, but serum is usually much better. The amylase/creatinine clearance ratio (ACCR) is a rapid test to screen for macroamylasaemia. |
Factors affecting test performance/ results |
α-Amylase is unstable in acid urine. High concentrations of ascorbic acid may cause falsely low results. Results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other findings. |
